For a 15 year old car, the paint work polishes up to an almost new look. The electric boot and roof are real attention-grabbers and I think the design is perfect no drafty breeze when roof is off and windows are up. Other than that, the only problem is finding a good one, as these are becoming more and more rare. I have never regretted it! Only had it a week, but the 200+ miles I have put on it in that time have certainly put a smile on my face. It is your car, do what you want, but when I see an antique car on the street, I appreciate it much more when it is kept to it original state as much as possible. General Comments: This is my third Honda and I can't ever see the need to consider buying from another car manufacturer.
Year of manufacture 1997 First year of ownership 2002 Most recent year of ownership 2002 Engine and transmission 1. Apart from the 90 mile drive back from the garage I bought it from. Dead solid reliability with quick and responsive handling. Yes Review Date: 26th March, 2003 Faults: I've only had to replace the muffler, but that's because I managed to rip it completely off going over a rather large dip in the road. The safety of hardtop and built in roll bar make it much more practical than Miatas or other similarly sized convertibels, but it still gives the open air fun. Even with the required high test at 2. Very comfortable, safe, dependable, with all the fun of a convertable while still having a hard top, I consider buying this car and keeping it to be one of my best decisions.
Year of manufacture 1997 First year of ownership 2002 Most recent year of ownership 2003 Engine and transmission 1. Small, low to the ground, and cute, it's built for smaller people. It's just too bad they stoppe making them. Comfortable enough for 10 hours behind the wheel. Actally, the storage compartment just below the cup holder serves terrifically as a spill basin when I take a corner at high speed with a full cup of Starbucks. The floor mats, visors and lack of cup holders are the only negatives. Carpet wearing prematurely on passenger side footwell.
Faults: I needed a new catalytic converter and O2 sensors at 153,000 miles. The mechanic said the catalytic converter was almost totally clogged up. The carpets are red with black mats. I found her a litle over a year ago and have enjoyed the 'affair'. I love the versatility of having a hard top, yet having a convertible. I think I'll leave them at home most of the time though, as this car is just too much fun to keep the roof on and the windows up, and much too pretty to get muddy paw marks on or dog hair all over the carpets. Compared to the Copen, this car is huge! Be sure to get one with air conditioning or you'll roast like a turkey on days above 85 and sunny. The only one thing that I don't like about the vehicle is where they placed the oil filter, it's on the back of the motor just above the engine block. Yes Review Date: 29th June, 2005. If it meets your needs, start your search now-the hardest part about getting this car will be letting go of it someday.
My car is metallic black, the seats are after-market Recaro leather, black with red stitching, as are the gear lever and brake gaiters. In many ways I feel like I'm putting on an article of clothing when I get in to the car. Since it's basically a Honda Civic underneath the 2-seater compartment, it's affordable. The first is a red 96 auto daily driver with 220k, faded paint, lots of dings and dents but mechanically perfect. Handled fantastic, a little anemic on the power side, but good with the low weight of the vehicle. My top has never leaked and I've never lubed it - perhaps the age long drought here has something to do with that. Even the space behind the seats is just perfect for my dogs.
Find an in home mechanic to replace the strut assemblies for cheap, and also to replace the brake pads, master cylinder, timing belt, and water pump. This car does have it's traction limits! Yes Review Date: 12th June, 2012. A little double sided tape holding on a couple of car mats, and I can take both of them with me on short journeys. Model year 1997 Year of manufacture 1997 First year of ownership 2011 Most recent year of ownership 2012 Engine and transmission 1. Like some of the older Del Sols, the roof on the Si leaks slightly, which was solved by installing custom seatcovers made of the neoprene type material. But nothing a little Armorol can't fix! I had to drive 300 miles on the darned thing one sunday night to get home.
Yes Review Date: 2nd May, 2006 As an update to the above review, I was in an accident with the Del Sol. Though the car was totalled, with both the front and rear ends crushed, I was protected by the passenger compartment which was completely intact; only the rear window smashed. Cabin is comfortable and well appointed although I miss not having a console dimmer switch for night driving. Photos available ; Thanks, Honda! The interior is very comfertable and spacious, the trunk has a generous ten cubic feet of storage space and an amazing eight cubic feet when the roof is stowed. I've heard of the roofs leaking after a while, but if you lubricate the seals like your supposed to then you'll never have a problem with it. On the whole, this is a fantastic car which I hope will last a long time.
I ditched that donut spare and got a full size tire which fits in the same place, but now I have a bit of a lump in the trunk floor. I think it's gotta be the lowest mileage sol in the U. It is very fast, which is to be expected for a car that weighs less than a ton and carries only two people. Electric roof temperamental, especially if it hasn't been used for a while. I may only average 5,000 miles a year on my car, Model year 1997 Year of manufacture 1997 First year of ownership 1997 Most recent year of ownership 2005 Engine and transmission 1. Locks for interior storage compartments would have been a nice feature. Yes Review Date: 12th July, 2001 By keeping your Del Sol original, it will maintain its value much more.
