The wavy cushion plate should be used. Sealing Rings and Thrust Washer Removal Step 1: Unhook the ends on all four sealing rings. I promise you that the next transmission I have to replace or any other person I hear of needing a transmission I will be heavily promoting Monster Transmission and tell them that I personally use Monster Transmission. Only plug this hole if you plan on doing the dual feed modification yourself. Set it in the drum, and it will force the lip seal into the drum without using a tool around the entire circumference.
Step 6 Turn the output shaft so the speedometer drive gear retainer is facing up. Step 2 A large nut retains the shift linkage rooster comb to the manual shaft. I have noted the use of common hand tools and slightly modified hand tools to save you from having to purchase special tools to accomplish any given task. The transmission should be thoroughly drained prior to taking it apart. Step 2 Remove the modulator from the case and discard the O-ring. They collapse and come out with less effort.
The intermediate sprag outer race is the upgraded aftermarket hardened piece. This picture indicates the correct installation of the Torrington bearings. Step 2: Install the lower valve body gasket. Use a push-in technique more than a work-around-the-drum technique. Step 2 A high-pressure power washer is an excellent way to remove heavy grease, dirt, and road tar from the case. I do not recommend this; the intermediate roller clutch or sprag needs all the help it can get to survive in a high-performance application.
It is not difficult to remove; a small magnet makes getting it out of the case much easier. Doing so ensures correct alignment of the torque converter drive hub in the oil pump inner gear, which reduces side loading and improves front seal life. Transtar offers a variety of high performance transmission rebuild kits. In general, an overhaul kit refers to the bag kit that contains the gaskets, seals and rings to correctly seal a transmission. Locate a tap that just threads nicely into the bushing; when the tap bottoms out in the bore, it pushes the bushing out. Note the location of the notch on the steels in the bottom of the case, and that the last friction is very close to the top of the low planetary, although it is still fully engaged.
Anti rattle clunk spring shown in correct location; use assembly grease to hold in place Be sure the low sprag inner race is not brinelled or has any unusual wear. It lifts off the drum easily once it is past the snap ring groove and the tension is removed. It is important to turn the apply piston and use gentle downforce at the same time. Step 6 Work the snap ring completely out of the groove, then remove the spring compressor from the case. They should move freely without sticking or binding.
Most shift kits come with upgraded separator plate gaskets right. Note that it has a notch in it to clear the parking pawl. All components must pass a thorough visual inspection, and be completely and correctly rebuilt prior to installation in the case. Step 3: Place a new seal on the modulator and install it into the case. What could I have done wrong in the installation? Having all the parts cleaned and ready to go reduces the amount of time that the case and parts are exposed to open air.
Step 4: Install the retainer and snap it into place with a large flat-blade screwdriver. Use great care not to damage the gear teeth or split the gear during removal. Turn it and feel for rough spots, which are tight when it turns. The installation of an aftermarket shift kit usually requires that some of the valves be removed and the springs be replaced. Torque Convertor Bushing and Seal Installation Step 1: Drive in a new torque converter bushing. Be sure to use some red Loctite on them.
Step 4: Install the lower bushing next. Bishop I definitely recommend a look at these transmissions, you've got to have a look. May consider use of teflon bushing, only a lubrication passage, no pressure, no lateral loading. Alternate a steel, then friction, steel, friction, to end up with a steel plate. It can be inspected with the transmission fully installed. Speedometer Installation Carefully inspect the speedometer drive gear for wear and cracks.
It started out as a non-running heap, but since then we have upgraded various aspects of the powertrain to obtain improved quarter-mile performance as well as better looks. Step 3: Install the intermediate clutch outer race. Direct Clutch Apply Piston Installation Install the direct drum center seal in the drum, lip facing up, and make sure that it is fully seated in the groove before attempting to install the apply piston. The alignment of the 350 transmission is done by two metal pins sticking out of the rear of the engine block; the 6 bolts hold the trans straight against the engine block. Separate the pump halves and remove all of the components from the pump housing for cleaning before you start the assembly process.
